David Minaya was named an assistant coach at Union in the fall of 2015. He began his work at Union as a graudate assistant for the men's basketball program in the fall of 2013. He is a native of Riverview, Fla.
Minaya has worked with basketballhq.com and also spent a year playing professional basketball in the Dominican Republic.
Minaya is a 2011 graudate of Liberty (Va.) University with a degree in finance. He played two seasons of basketball at Liberty, starting 31 games and scoring double figures 20 times as a junior. He scored 12 points in a game at Texas Tech. As a sophomore, he played in 29 games with six starts.
Prior to his time at Liberty, Minaya played his freshman season at Tennessee Tech University in the Ohio Valley Conference. He started 14 games, while playing in all 32 games. In his college debut at Rutgers, he scored 11 points with 4-of-6 shooting. His first college start was at Oregon State where he scored 11 points.
Minaya is a 2007 graduate of Oldsmar Christian where he was part of two-straight district titles, while averaging 22.3 points, 12.0 rebounds and 2.0 assists per game as a sophomore. He tallied 19.9 points, 12.3 rebounds and 5.0 assists per contest as a junior, and tallied 20.0 points and 11.0 rebounds per game, helping Oldsmar Christian to a district runner-up finish as a senior. Minaya was a three-year letterwinner, earning all-county each season, named to the Sun Coast All-Conference second-team as a senior, played for his father, an assistant coach, all three varsity years at Oldsmar Christian.
Minaya was married to his wife Kaylee in July 2012. He is the son of Rangel and Jacoba Minaya.
