Before Union
Applegate prepped at Franklin Road Christian School where he played both basketball and baseball for four years. His basketball team won a TSIAA State Championship while he was there. He was named TSIAA All-State and also joined the 1500 Career Point Club and accumulated 1000 career rebounds.
Off the court, he was part of the Honor Society.
