Tanner Wessling joined the Union University baseball staff as graduate assistant in August of 2019. Wessling came to Union after spending the past three seasons in coaching. Wessling is entering his second season as graduate assistant with the Bulldogs baseball program.
Wessling was the head coach/manager of the Fulton Railroaders in the Ohio Valley League in 2019. In the 2018-19 season, he was the volunteer assistant coach at Copiah Lincoln Community College. He worked mostly with catchers and outfielders, while also working as assistant hitting coach. In 2017-18, Wessling served as the student assistant coach for the University of Tennessee Martin softball program, working with infielders and hitters.
Wessling is a 2018 graduate of UT Martin with a degree in Business Administration with a focus in Sports Management. While at UT Martin, he played two years of baseball. He posted career numbers that including a .331 average with eight home runs, 105 hits, and 28 extra base hits. he helped lead the UT Martin team to a conference tournament appearance in 2017 for only the third time in program history.
Before UT Martin, Wessling played two years of baseball at Edmonds Community College from 2013-15. He was a .304 career hitter at ECC with 32 hits and 11 extra base hits. AS a catcher at ECC, he committed only two errors and threw out 11 would be base stealers. During his two seasons at ECC, his team won the NWAC in 2014, followed by a third place finish in 2015.
Wessling prepped at Kentwood High School (2013 graduate) where he played two years of varsity baseball. He led his team to a state title in 2012 and a fourth place state finish in 2013. He set a school record with 16 doubles, while hitting .385 with a triple and four home runs. He was named second team all-state and Tacoma New Tribune All-Area.
Wessling is a native of Kent, Washington and is the son of Michael and LaDawna Wessling.
