Riley Self came to Union from Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College where he served as the pitching coach for the Bulldogs. He helped MGCCC’s pitching staff earn the fourth best ERA in the conference.

Self is a 2021 graduate of Mississippi State University with a bachelor’s degree in sport studies. While at Mississippi State, he completed a successful baseball career. Self went 13-2 with a 3.85 ERA, striking out 112 batters in 112.1 innings. He sits sixth all time in program history in career appearances with 86. He appeared in seven games during the Bulldog’s 2021 National Championship season. During his sophomore season at MSU he was named to the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association Stopper of the year Preseason watch list. As a freshmen at MSU he was named Freshmen All-America by Baseball America and Collegiate Baseball Newspaper. 

Self lettered five times at Magnolia Heights School and earned first team All-America honors as a senior.
