Before Union
Hefner transferred to Union form Southeastern Illinois College where he played two years of baseball. He helped lead his team to back-to-back playoff berths in 2018 and 2019, the 2018 trip was the first berth in 20 years for the program. Hefner prepped at Harrisburg High School where he played four years of baseball, four years of football, and three years of basketball. His baseball team won three region titles, while his football team claimed one region title. In baseball he earned first team all-conference honors, while leading his team to four consecutive region title games. In football, Hefner was named academic all-state, first team all-conference, and defensive back of the year.
