Before Union
Self transferred to Union from Presbyterian (S.C.) College where he played one season of baseball. He began his college career at Roane State (Tenn.) Community College with a red-shirt season. Self prepped at Wilson Central High School in Lebanon, Tenn. where he played baseball, football and one season of wrestling before graduating in 2010. He was named team captain, while earning numerous area and region honors as a senior. Self was named to the watch list of up and comign juniors in the state of Tennessee. He was also named Best Defensie Catcher at the Vanderbilt Baseball Camp in 2009. As a senior, Self hit .419 with 52 RBI and 14 home runs during his senior year of high school and summer ball. Off the field, Self was a member of the National Honors Society, was a Tennessee Scholar, earned the Graden Graines Foundation Scholarship and was a Hope Scholarship recipient. He is the son of Norman and Pamela Self.
