Before Union
Kipkoech prepped at Cheplaskei Boys High School where he participated in many sports including cross country, handball and football. He was also active in the Sports Club, Wildlife Club and Journalism Club. He led his team to a regional title in cross country and handball. His school team was named the best athletic team in the country. He also helped win numerous journalism awards. He was named team captain.
