Before Union
McKelvey prepped at Shoals (Ala.) Christian School where she ran cross country for five seasons. She was also a member of the tennis team for six years. McKelvey won the state individual title in 2009 and 2012. In cross country, she was named all-state five times, MVP, five times, and all-area five times. She added all-area tennis honors in 2014. Off the course, McKelvey was a member of the National Honors Society, was a Girl's State delegate, on the honor roll, and was selected as homecoming representative as a junior and senior. McKelvey's older sister is a runner for Union women's cross country.
