2014... started eight races... won Union Cross Country Invitational...second team All-GSC, GSC All-Freshman Team...GSC Academic Honor Roll...DII All-South Region. 2015...started seven races...best finish: 3rd...first team All-GSC...DII All-South Region...GSC All-Academic...GSC Academic Honor Roll...CoSIDA Captial One Academic All-District...USTFCCCA All-Academic. 2016...GSC Runner of the week twice...first team All-GSC...first team All-South Region...GSC All-Academic...GSC Honor Roll...USTFCCCA All-Academic...started 7 races...best finish 1st. 2017...first team All-GSC...All-South Region...GSC Academic Honor Roll...started in six races...best finish second in the Watson Ford Classic...Fulbright Grant...Tigret Medel...GSC Top Ten Award...in June 2020 was named GSC All-Decade 1st Team. 

Before Union
Berends prepped at Hudsonville (Mich.) High School where she ran cross country for four seasons and track and field for one season. She helped lead her cross country team to the region title all four seasons of high school. Berends led her cross country team to the conference title in 2011 and 2013. She was named all conference three times and all-area once. Off the course, Berends earned the AP Scholar Award, was a National Merit Finalist, and was a highest honors student. Berends has two sisters that are also runners for Union's cross country team.
