Kentucky Wesleyan slips past Union men's soccer 2-1 Friday evening

JACKSON, Tenn. - The Union Universty men's soccer team lost 2-1 to Kentucky Wesleyan University Friday evening at Smith Memorial Soccer Complex. Union dropped to 0-3 on the season, while Kentucky Wesleyan improved to 1-1 overall. 

Kentucky Wesleyan scored first with a goal from Carter Ford, assisted by Mattie McNally in the 26th minute. That goal stood as the lone goal of the first half. Union trailed 1-0 at the half, being outshot 7-4 in the first 45 minutes. 

Union got the equalizer in the 54th minute when Niclas Peranitsch found the upper right corner of the goal to even the match at 1-1. 

The score remained 1-1 until a penalty kick goal from KWU's Jersey Lopez broke the tie and served as the game-winning goal. 

Union was outshot 21-13 in the match, including a much more event total of 10-8 in shots-on-goal. Corners were nearly event, 6-5 in favor of KWU. Fouls were 10-6, Union. 

Ashanti Kennedy led Union with three shots, all on goal. Peranitsch scored his goal on two shots, while Jacob Davis also recorded two shots for Union. Patrick Schott played all 90 minutes in goal, recording six saves. 

Up next will be a non-conference road game, September 6 at Christian Brothers at 3 p.m. This will be the final non-conference match before Union opens Gulf South Conference play, September 12 at Mississippi Christian University.
