PALM BEACH GARDENS, Fla. - The Union University men's golf team posted an eighth place finish at the National Preview hosted by Nova Southeastern University. The 54-hole event was played at the PGA National RS Course and featured 10 teams with 57 golfers.Â
Union freshman
Houston Brasfield led the Bulldogs with a T12 finish, firing an even-par total over 54 holes. He shot a 73 in the first round, followed by a 2-under 70 to close out play Monday. He added another 1-over 73 in Tuesday's final round. Brasfield recorded 13 birdies and one eagle in the event.Â
Union was in fifth place after the first and second rounds, but struggled as a group in Tuesday final round, dropping to eighth. Union was at +8 after two rounds, including 6-over in the first round and 2-over in the second round. However, a 21-over par third round dropped the Bulldogs in the final standings to finish 29-over. Florida Southern won the event at 28-under par.Â
Andrew Westmoreland finished T17, +4 (E, -2, +6) and
Nolan Smith finished T27, +7 (+1, +3, +3).
Henry Ashley played as an individual for Union, finishing 44th, +15 (+4, +9, +2). Finishing out the Union team wsa
Trace Robinson T49, +19 and
Brenner Sipkovsky, 53rd, +21.Â
Up next for Union will be the Gurrahee Invitational in Toccoa, Georgia October 5-6.Â
