JACKSON, Tenn. — The Union University women's soccer team opened its 2026 season with a strong effort against Western Kentucky University on Thursday evening. The Lady Bulldogs battled throughout the match before falling 2-0 at the WKU Soccer Complex.
Union's defense held firm throughout the opening 45 minutes, keeping Western Kentucky off the scoreboard and sending the match into halftime tied 0-0.
Western Kentucky scored twice during the second half, but the Lady Bulldogs continued competing until the final whistle. Union's goalkeepers combined for seven saves, with Antia Lopez Rodriguez recording five and Dehlia Placie adding two.
Paige Blackburn, Irene Arias, and Chloe Roberts each recorded a shot for the Lady Bulldogs. Union finished the match with three shots, while Western Kentucky recorded 17.
The season opener gave several Lady Bulldogs an opportunity to contribute against a strong opponent. Union will look to build upon its determined defensive performance as the team continues its early-season road trip.
Next, the Lady Bulldogs will play at McKendree University on Sunday at 3 p.m.
