DICKSON, Tenn. - The Union University women's golf team jumped two spots to finish in sixth place in theÂ
2026 Gulf South Conference Championship. The three round event was played at the Greystone Golf Club and featured nine teams with 45 golfers.Â
The first place finish matched the 2025 fourth place finish as the highest finish for Union women's golf since joining the GSC in 2014-15.
Union's final round of 294 is a program record for lowest round. It was also the second lowest round of the day, behind Lee's 290. Lee won the event by one stroke over West Florida with a 903. Union finished with a 927 over the three rounds. Lee, ranked No. 9 nationally, topped No. 26 West Florida, No. 40 Montevallo (3rd), No. 50 Union, and No. 48 Mississippi College (5th).Â
Abigail Fernandez finished tied for fifth place, just four strokes behind the medalist, and was named all-tournament. She improved each round, going 6-over in the first round, 2-over in the second round, and even par in the final round. She posted five birdies, one bogie, one quadruple bogie and 11 pars. West Florida's Millie Thompson won the event with a +4 for the championship.Â
With the record setting final round, all five golfers for Union improved their final finish from Tuesday's second round.
Brooklyn Verdugo jumped five spots to finish in 13th place (+14), shooting 2-over in the final round.
Camille Burnette jumped four spots to finish 21st (+20) after a 4-over par final round.
Macy Bromley improved five spots to finish in 26th place (+22) after shooting even par in the final round. and
Olivia Carroll shot a +4 in the final round.Â
This championship marked the final event in the long career for Head Coach
Andy Rushing, who coached baseball, men's golf, and women's golf during his time at Union.Â
