DICKSON, Tenn. - The Union University men's golf team finished in third place at theÂ
2026 Gulf South Conference Championship. The three round event was played at the Greystone Golf Club and featured nine teams with 45 golfers.Â
Lane Carr, a native of Medina, Tennessee, fired a final round 66 for Union, climbing two spots to finish runner-up. Carr actually took sole possession of first place after a birdie on the 18th hole at 9-under par for the championship. He led Mississippi College's Joao Iglesias by one, and and Lee's Drew Ziellnski by two strokes in the clubhouse. His two followers still had three holes to play. Entering the 18th, there was a three way tie at 9-under. Lee's Ziellnski recorded his third straight birdie to claim medalist honors.Â

Carr's 207, 9-under par (73, 69, 66) was the best finish for Union at the GSC Championship, surpassing JJ Zimmer's 212 (-4) in 2023. It was also the highest finish for a Union golfer since Cody Alexander (1st) and Brett Barry (2nd) in 2013 when Union's scores didn't count during the membership transition period from NAIA to NCAA.Â
Union moved up a spot in the final round, shooting 5-under for the second straight day. Just the nation's No. 1 team West Florida (1st) and No. 2 team Lee (2nd) finished ahead of the Bulldogs. West Florida was 22-under par, while Lee was 21-under par. The top three schools including Union were the only teams to shoot under par for the championship.Â
Tuesday's hero for Union,
Andrew Westmoreland, who shot a 66 in the second round followed that up with a 71 (-1) to finish 10th at -2 in the championship.
Trace Robinson was +1 in the final round to finish 17th (+3).
Matthew Westmoreland was +1 in the final round to finish 20th (+5), while
Henry Ashley was 6-over in the final round to finish 32nd (+14).Â
This championship marked the final event in the long career for Head CoachÂ
Andy Rushing, who coached baseball, men's golf, and women's golf during his time at Union.Â
