DICKSON, Tenn. - The Union University women's golf team is in sixth place after the first round of the
2026 Gulf South Conference Championship. The three round event is being played at the Greystone Golf Club and features nine teams with 45 golfers.Â
Union's first round was +30, 28 strokes behind the leader, West Florida a +2. Five teams in the field are ranked in the NCAA D2 Top 50 including No. 26 West Florida in first, No. 48 Mississippi College in second (+16), No. 9 Lee in third (+18), No. 40 Montevallo (+22), and No. 50 Union. Trevecca Nazarene is in fourth place (+19).Â
Brooklyn Verdugo leads Union in 10th place with a first round 4-over par. Two of West Florida's players are tied for first at -2. Trevecca's Mattie Goad is the only other player under par at -1 in third place.Â
Verdugo had 14 pars and four bogies in her first round.
Abigail Fernandez (16th) is 6-over including two birdies.
Macy Bromley (26th) is 9-over with two birdies.
Camille Burnette (31st) is 11-over with two birdies, and
Grace Roper (42nd) is 17-over with two birdies.Â
