Union Battles Back to Take Series Over Montevallo Behind Clutch Pitching, Timely Hits

JACKSON, Tenn.- Facing a tough Montevallo squad, Union responded with resilience and timely execution, bouncing back from an opening-game setback to secure the series with back-to-back wins at Fesmire Field.

Union opened the series with a 9–6 loss, despite collecting 12 hits at the plate. Early offensive production kept the Bulldogs within striking distance, but Montevallo capitalized on key moments to hold the edge late .

The momentum shifted in Game 2 as Union outlasted Montevallo in a 10-inning battle, earning a 2–1 victory. Locked in a pitcher's duel for much of the game, Union leaned on a dominant bullpen performance. Freshman Chris Troyer provided a strong start, while Cole Lannom delivered four scoreless innings in relief to earn the win and keep Montevallo off the board in extra innings . Timely execution at the plate proved to be the difference as Union capitalized in the 10th to even the series.

With the series on the line, Union secured a 5–4 win in the finale behind a balanced effort on both sides. The Bulldogs tallied 12 hits and used a multi-run third and fifth inning to build their lead. Eli Gipson led the offense with three hits and an RBI, while Nick Stamper added a home run to spark the lineup . On the mound, Troyer again gave Union valuable innings before Eli Jackson shut the door late, earning the win and sealing the series victory.

Across the final two games, Union's pitching staff allowed just five combined runs, while the offense delivered in key situations. The Bulldogs showed poise in close games, executing when it mattered most to claim the series.

The Bulldogs face a midweek game against Arkansas Tech (4/21), then cap off the season in Memphis with a series against Christian Brothers (4/24-25). To keep up with the squad, follow @UUAthleticsBB on Instagram and Twitter.
