Union baseball splits Friday doubleheader behind Evans' complete game shutout

JACKSON, Tenn. - The Union University baseball team split a Friday Gulf South Conference doubleheader with Lee University at Fesmire Field. Lee won the first game 13-3 in seven innings, while Union clamined game two 4-0. Union moved to 8-11 on the season and 3-8 in the GSC. Lee moved to 15-5 overall and 7-4 in league play. 

Lane Evans (1-0) got the start in the second game of the doubleheader. He scattered four hits over the seven inning game, striking out eight hitters and walking just three. The Bulldog bats did their part early, scoring three runs in the first. Grant Ross starting the scoring with an RBI single. Ethan Quinn wrapped up first inning scoring with a 2-run triple. Jordan Allen gave Union an insurance run in the six when he drove in Dyllon Barrett. Caleb Davis and Quinn led with two hits in the game. 

Game one was dominated by Lee. The Flames jumped on top with two runs in the first and another in the second. Union tied the game in the second. Jordan Allen had a sacrifice fly and Kylon Jorner had a 2-RBI triple. Lee extended its lead with runs in all but two innings and finished off the run-rule win in seven. Union managed five hits from five different players. Carter Daniel (1-3) took the loss, allowing eight run on 12 hits in four innings. Nathan Myers tossed the final three innings, allowing five runs, three earned on five hits.
