JACKSON, Tenn. — Union erased a late deficit in dramatic fashion Tuesday afternoon, plating five runs in the bottom of the eighth inning to rally past Arkansas Tech, 10-9, at Fesmire Field.
Trailing 9-5 entering the eighth, the Bulldogs delivered their most explosive inning of the day when it mattered most. A pair of walks and a single loaded the bases before Kylon Joyner came through with a clutch two-RBI single up the middle to cut the deficit to two. After a hit-by-pitch and a sacrifice fly from Elijah Ramsey made it 9-8, Union continued to apply pressure. Joseph Hufstedler drew a bases-loaded walk to tie the game, and Jordan Allen followed with the go-ahead RBI single through the left side to cap the comeback.
Union's offense showed resilience all afternoon. After falling behind 6-0 early, the Bulldogs answered with a five-run fourth inning highlighted by a two-RBI double from Cody Tjomsland and RBI singles from Canyon Pace and Ethan Quinn to get back within one.
Joyner led the charge offensively, finishing 2-for-4 with three RBIs, while Allen added two hits, two runs, and the game-winning RBI. Tjomsland also contributed in a big way with two RBIs at the plate before shutting the door on the mound in the ninth to earn the save.
On the mound, Cole Lannom earned the win with two innings of work out of the bullpen, helping keep Union within striking distance before the late surge.
After Arkansas Tech briefly regained control with a four-run swing across the fifth and eighth innings, Union had the final answer—using patience at the plate and timely hitting to complete the comeback and secure the one-run victory.
Union finished with 10 runs on 12 hits, showcasing a balanced offensive attack and late-game poise in the midweek win.
Next up for the Bulldogs is a series against the University of West Alabama this week.
