CHAMPIONSGATE, Fla. - The Union University men's golf team posted a ninth place finish at the Citrus Intercollegiate hosted by Southern Golf Events. The 54-hole event was played at the Championsgate Golf Resort in Championsgate (Orlando), Florida and featured 12 teams with 70 golfers. The tournament was played in very windy conditions. 

Union senior from Atoka, Tennessee, Andrew Westmoreland won the event thanks in 4-under 68 in the final round final round. Westmoreland finished 1-under for the event and was the only golfer in the field to finish below par. He shot even part in the first round Monday, followed by 3-over in the second round. Westmoreland then shot a 4-under par in the final round to pull off medalist honors. He finished the 54 holes with 11 birdies including five in the final round.  

Westmoreland held off two golfers who finished tied for second place at even par for the event. 

The only final round score better than Westmoreland's in the field was teammate Houston Brasfield's final round of 67 (5-under). Brasfield finished in a tie for seventh in the event following a first round 3-over and second round 6-over to finish the tournament at 4-over. 

The Union men moved up and down the very competitive leader board in this tournament including moments in the top spot. Union was tied for third after round one, 5-over team score. Union dropped to eighth after the second round +29, and then finished in ninth after a third round +11. Union was +45 for the event. 

Nova Southeastern, ranked No. 3 nationally, won the even at +11. Of the 12 teams, six were ranked in the top-40 nationally. Union finished one spot ahead of the only other Gulf South Conference team in the field with Trevecca Nazarene posting a +48 in 10th place. 

The remainder of Union's team including Brenner Sipkovsky T55 (+21), Nolan Smith T60 (+25), and Jack-Henry Wise T65 (+65). 

This was the final fall event for Union. The Bulldogs will pick back up in the Spring with the Lynn Invitational, March 1-2 in Boco Raton, Florida.
