NASHVILLE, Tenn. — The Union University women's basketball team battled through four tightly contested quarters but ultimately fell 70–61 to Trevecca Nazarene on Saturday afternoon at the Trojan Fieldhouse.
Union (12-7, 7-4 GSC) opened the game with strong defensive energy, holding Trevecca to just 13 points in the first quarter while taking a 15–13 edge. Olivia Lee set the tone early, knocking down a pair of three-pointers in the opening frame as the Bulldogs controlled the pace and forced early turnovers.
The contest remained close through the second quarter, with Union continuing to attack the paint and earn trips to the free-throw line. Aryn Roberts provided a spark off the bench, finishing through contact and helping Union stay within one possession at halftime, trailing just 28–27.
Trevecca gained momentum coming out of the break, using a strong third quarter to build separation. Despite continued efforts from Lee and Morgan Escobedo, Union struggled to keep pace as the Trojans extended their lead to eight by the end of the third.
Union responded with its best shooting quarter of the game in the fourth, hitting 46.2 percent from the floor and going a perfect 6-for-6 at the free-throw line. The Bulldogs trimmed the deficit to four multiple times down the stretch, highlighted by fast-break finishes from Lee and Roberts, but Trevecca capitalized at the line late to secure the win.
Lee led all Union scorers with 19 points, adding seven rebounds, four assists, and two steals in a complete performance. Roberts contributed 12 points on an efficient 5-of-6 shooting, while Courtney Zensen added seven points and six rebounds. Union won the battle on the boards, outrebounding Trevecca 37–38, and tallied 20 bench points in the effort.
The Bulldogs will look to bounce back as Gulf South Conference play continues at the Fred Delay Gymnasium. Fans can enjoy admission free of charge thanks to the generosity of FirstBank.
