Union women's basketball second in NCAA regional ranking

| By:
JACKSON, Tenn. – Union University women's basketball is the second-place squad in the South Region according to the Division II regional rankings released Wednesday.

These rankings, whose next iterations will be revealed on Wednesday, March 5, and on Sunday, March 9, in the form of the NCAA Tournament selection show, indicate the strength of resumes for tournament seeding purposes.

The Lady Bulldogs (24-3, 19-1 GSC), winners of 10 straight, are topped in the ranking only by the Sunshine State Conference's Embry-Riddle (23-3, 12-2 SSC). Tampa (25-5, 17-3 SSC), Nova Southeastern (22-5, 15-4 SSC), and Lee (22-4, 16-4 GSC) complete the top five.

After the ranking release but before the time of publication, Nova Southeastern earned a 72-67 road victory over Embry-Riddle, and Tampa won by 26 over Barry. Note that the records listed in this article reflect these results.

Alabama Huntsville (22-5, 17-5 GSC), Clark Atlanta (22-6, 15-4 SIAC), West Florida (17-9, 13-7 GSC), Eckerd (17-8, 12-7 SSC), and Barry (18-9, 11-8 SSC) are also named in the release.

Thus, the SSC took spots 1, 3, 4, 9, and 10 in Wednesday's tabulation, while the GSC claimed positions 2, 5, 6, and 8.

Having already clinched the GSC regular-season championship, the Lady Bulldogs will finish the 2024-25 conference campaign with games at Trevecca Nazarene (Thursday, 5:30 p.m.) and Lee (Saturday, 1:00 p.m.).

The GSC Tournament will begin on Tuesday, March 4, when Union hosts the 8-seed in the Fred DeLay Gymnasium at 5:30 p.m. The three other conference quarterfinals will also be held Tuesday at UAH, Lee, and UWF. The SSC's conference tournament will also begin on Tuesday and conclude on Sunday, but all its games will be hosted by the higher seeds.

The South Region Championship, a seven-game event to be hosted by the region's top seed, will begin Friday, March 14, and feature the champions of the GSC, SSC, and SIAC tournaments and five at-large teams.
