Box Score JACKSON, Tenn. – The Union University men's basketball team fell at home to West Florida on Thursday night, 69-62, despite a season-high 23 points from
Kaleim Taylor.
UWF (7-18, 6-13) led Union 41-28 at halftime, benefiting from 15-27 (.556) shooting in the first 20 minutes. Union mounted a second-half comeback, once narrowing its deficit to three, but never led in the game's final 32 minutes.
Union drops to 12-13 (8-11 Gulf South Conference) and seventh place in the GSC. With three games to play, the Bulldogs will continue to fight to secure one of three unclaimed conference tournament berths. The Bulldogs have lost three straight and six of seven.
Taylor finished 9-14 from the floor and 3-6 from three in his season-high, while
Jeremiah Littlepage scored 14 and
CJ Jackson had 12.
Jack Shackelford, who led Union with seven rebounds, made the team's only other three of the evening; the Bulldogs finished .200 (4-20) from beyond the arc.
Union is 0-9 when scoring 70 points or fewer and 2-12 when shooting .435 or lower. The Bulldogs delivered season-lows in turnovers (eight) and assists (four).
West Florida improved on Thursday night to 10-11 in all-time action against the Bulldogs; both teams won the road contest this season.
The Bulldogs prepare for their season's final home game, Saturday afternoon action against the nationally ranked (#9/17) Blazers of Valdosta State (20-4, 15-3). Tip-off in the Fred DeLay Gymnasium is scheduled for 4:00 p.m.
