JACKSON, Tenn. - The Union University women's basketball team posted an 82-53 win over the University of Montevallo Saturday afternoon at Fred DeLay Gymnasium. Union, receiving votes at No. 27 in the WBCA national rankings, improved to 9-4 overall and 4-1 in the Gulf South Conference. Montevallo dropped to 3-7 on the season and 2-4 in league play.
Union and Montevallo played a low-scoring first half, 36-27. Montevallo kept it close for the first 20, but Union never gave up the lead.
In the third quarter, Union's offense came alive and put the game away. The Lady Bulldogs outscored Montevallo 29-5 in the third quarter and built its largest lead of the night at 65-32 to end the third.
Union cruised down the stretch for its fifth straight win.
Union was led by
Olivia Lee with 14 points and eight rebounds.
Nora Saffell added 13 points, and Aubury Sorrells finished with 10.
Aryn Roberts led with five assists. Union shot 45 percent from the field, 23 percent (7-30) from 3-point range, and 72 percent (13-18) from the free throw line
Montevallo was led by Emily Mouser and Alani Owens with 10 points each. The Falcons shot 33 percent from the field, 29 percent (7-24) from long range, and 94 percent (16-17) from the foul line.
