JACKSON, Tenn. - The Union University women's basketball team defeated Christian Brothers University 107-45 at Fred DeLay Gymnasium Saturday afternoon. Union, receiving votes in WBCA national rankings, improved to 6-4 overall and 2-1 in the Gulf South Conference. Christian Brothers dropped to 3-6 on the season, and 0-3 in league play.
Union set the pace early with 35 points in the first quarter to lead 35-8. Union continued to build its lead, taking a 57-22 lead at the half. Union added 32 more points in the third quarter.
Union also dominated the board, out-rebounding CBU 50-32, including 23-7 on the offensive glass. Union scored 22 second-chance points and 45 points off turnovers.
The Lady Bulldogs never trailed and led by as many as 65 points late in the fourth quarter.
Union's only two returners from last year's team with significant playing time led the way.
Olivia Lee led with 19 points and
Courtney Zensen added 14 points, including four 3-pointers.
Nora Saffell added 12 points,
Abigail Bryan scored 11, and
Maddie Gray added 10.
Aryn Roberts led with nine rebounds. Union shot 46 percent from the field, 28 percent (12-43) from 3-point range, and 77 percent (13-17) from the foul line.
Christian Brothers was led by Donee' Frazier with 14 points.
Union steps out of GSC play for the final time in the regular season for a match-up against Drury, Monday, December 15 at 5:30 p.m. at home.
