JACKSON, Tenn. - The Union University men's basketball team posted a 76-74 win over Christian Brothers University Saturday evening at Fred DeLay Gymnasium. Union improved to 6-3 overall and 2-1 in the Gulf South Conference. Christian Brothers dropped to 1-7 on the season and 0-3 in league play.
With 3.6 seconds left in the game, a tip-in from Terrence Ringo, Jr. gave Union the 75-74 lead and proved to be the winning basket. After a turnover on the in-bounds pass from CBU, Ringo added 1-of-2 free throws with 6-tenths of a second left to seal the win.
Union led by five points, 69-64, with 3:14 left to play. But a CBU fired off an 8-0 run to take a 72-69 lead with just 32 seconds left to play. CBU led again by three points, 74-41, with 23 seconds left in the game.
Will Lovings-Watts was fouled and sank two free throws. After a Union foul, CBU missed the front end of a one-and-one to give Union the shot at the win. That is when Ringo's key offensive rebound and tip-in on a missed layup by Lovings-Watts gave Union the home court victory.
