FRANKFORT, Ky. - The Union University women's basketball team earned a region road win 99-66 at Kentucky State University Friday afternoon. Union, ranked No. 2 in the WBCA Preseason Poll, improved to 2-2 on the season. This was the first game of the season for Kentucky State.
Union forced 36 turnovers in the win, scoring 30 points off those turnovers.Â
The first quarter was back and forth, with Union's
Olivia Lee getting the scoring started. However, Kentucky State answered and stayed with Union early. KSU led by as many as four points in the first quarter, while Union managed a couple of 2-point leads early in the game. KSU led 24-23 at the end of one.Â
Union and KSU swapped leads one more time early in the second quarter before
Aubrey Sorrells completed a 3-point play and gave Union the lead for good at 28-26. With 3:33 left in the first half, Union extended its lead to double figures on a free throw from
Aryn Roberts. Union held its largest lead to this point with a 51-39 halftime lead.Â
Union controlled the second half with 25 points in the third and 23 more in the fourth. Union outscored KSU 48-27 in the second half. Union held its largest lead of 34 points, 99-65, very late in the fourth quarter.Â
Lee led Union with 22 points.
Abigail Bryan added 15 points, Sorrells scored 13 points, and
Maddie Gray added 10 points. Roberts scored nine points and led with six rebounds in her first game of the season.Â
The Lady Bulldogs shot 46 percent from the field, 28 percent (9-32) from 3-point range, and 71 percent (20-28) from the free throw line.Â
Kentucky State was led by Amina Seck with 13 points. KSU shot 36 percent from the field, 16 percent (3-19) from long range, and 72 percent (18-25) from the foul line.Â
