SEARCY, Ark. – After going a goal down in the second minute, Union women's soccer stormed back with a trio of scores to roll past Harding 3-1 in the team's season-opener on Thursday in Searcy.
Union (1-0-0) held Harding to just three shots on goal, itself taking nine.
The Lady Bisons (0-1-0) scored early (1:32) on a Kloey Fullerton shot into the top left corner that beat Union keeper Kirsten LaValle.
The lead was short-lived, as a
Rebekah Jackson chip over the Harding keeper from just outside the middle of the box equalized in the 12th minute.
The teams went into the break tied 1-1.
In the 63rd minute,
Madison Woolridge, last year's team leader in goals, headed a corner kick ball into the bottom left of the net for the eventual game-winner. The score was the junior's ninth career goal and third game-winner.
Lucia Revuelto assisted on the first two Union goals.
In the 71st minute,
Paige Blackburn delivered insurance the Lady Bulldogs wouldn't need with her first collegiate goal. Fellow first-year
Ebba Detulleo had the assist.
LaVallee spent the entire match in net, collecting two saves.
Union's first yellow card of the season came in the 54th minute when Revuelto was booked for unsporting conduct.
Union women's soccer has never lost when scoring three since joining Division II in 2012. This win breaks Union's losing streak of four in season-openers.
Next, the Lady Bulldogs will head to Jefferson City, Tennessee, for a Saturday date with Carson-Newman. First touch is scheduled for 2:30 p.m.
