CLEVELAND, Miss – Delta State held Union men's soccer to just one shot on goal, scored twice in the second half, and beat the Bulldogs 2-0 in Cleveland on Friday afternoon.
The Bulldogs, who haven't scored in the last two matches, fall to 4-3-1 (0-2-1). Delta State improves to 2-2-3 (1-1-1).
After 66 scoreless minutes of play, Delta State's Ryan Thistle scored the game-winner on a low, hard shot after running up to a long diagonal pass from Alfie Lally.
The Statesmen doubled their lead at 83:40 when a
Tommy Scahill penalty save was sent home by Cyrus Gulati.
Scahill stopped six of eight Statesman shots on target. Union was outshot 20-7 and 13-4 in the second half.
Union will play three more road games before again appearing at Smith Memorial Soccer Complex. Next up is Tougaloo College on Sunday at 4:00 p.m.
