Abell throws complete game shutout as the Lady Bulldogs take one in midweek doubleheader with Ouachita Baptist

JACKSON, Tenn. - On Mar. 26, the Union University softball team split their midweek doubleheader with Ouachita Baptist University, losing the first game 3-1 and winning the second game 3-0. After these games, Union is now 20-14 overall, and Ouachita is 9-25 overall.

In game one, the Lady Bulldogs were only able get four hits off of Ouachita pitcher Hannah Hunter. Two of these hits were extra base hits with a double from Camryn Langley in the third and solo shot off the bat of Brooke Puckett in the fifth. Puckett's homerun would prove to be the only run of the game for Union. Morgan Jennings and Macey Neal had Union's two other hits

Emily Claire Felder got the start in the circle for the Lady Bulldogs. She threw five innings allowing three runs on seven hits, while striking out five hitters and walking four. Felder faced one batter in the sixth before giving way to Riley Vaughn, who pitched one inning in relief. Felder took the loss, bringing her record to 4-5 overall.

In game two, Union more than doubled their hit total from game one. Courtney Marler singled in the third to score Jennings. Jennings singled in the fourth to score Puckett, and Mackenzi David crushed a solo homer in the seventh for Union's third run of the game.

Jennings led the Lady Bulldogs' offense, going 3-4. Bryleigh Carneal followed close behind, finishing 2-3, and Macey Neal, Zoey Neal, Marler, David, and Puckett had one hit each.

Addison Abell pitched a gem in the circle as she went the full seven innings, allowing no runs and only two walks and one hit while striking out two. Abell's record is now 3-1 on the season.

Up next, the Lady Bulldogs stay in Arkadelphia, Ark., for another midweek doubleheader, this time against Henderson State University. First pitch of game one is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. on Mar. 27.
