VALDOSTA, Ga. - The Union University women's basketball team will play in the NCAA D2 Women's Basketball National Tournament for the seventh straight season and ninth time in the 10 years of NCAA membership. Union has earned the No. 2 seed in the south region and will open with 7-seed Eckerd (Florida) College at 1:30 p.m. Central in Valdosta Georgia. Valdosta State will host this year's regional as the No. 1 seed. Union has a 29-3 overall record, finishing runner-up in the Gulf South Conference regular season before losing in the GSC Tournament semifinals.
Union University is a private Southern Baptist institution located in Jackson, Tennessee (between Memphis and Nashville). Union celebrated its 200th birthday in 2023 during a year-long bicentennial celebration. Union is the oldest Southern Baptist university in the country.
Union is 1-1 versus Eckerd College all-time with both meetings coming in region tournament play. Union eliminated Eckerd in the 2022 region semifinals played at Union, 74-48. Eckerd then reversed the script in the 2023 region tournament played in Tampa, Florida, eliminating Union in the semifinals, 64-57.
