BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Union University men's basketball forward
Judson Bjornstad has been named the GSC Freshman of the Week, the conference office announced Tuesday.
Bjornstad averaged 11.5 points between Union's two games at the DoubleTree Thanksgiving Classic on November 26-27. He scored 11 against Drury, the host team, on Tuesday before setting a season-high of 12 against Illinois-Springfield the following day. Bjornstad, 6-8, grabbed four total rebounds and averaged an assist and half a steal. The freshman sunk five of 15 three-point attempts and was 2-2 from the free throw line.
Bjornstad's recognition is the Bulldogs' first weekly award of the 2024-25 season. Last year, Union took home eight Freshman of the Week awards–six to
Jordan Pyke and one apiece to
Devaki Garr and
Parker Applegate.
Through a half-dozen games, Bjornstad averages 8.8 points, 3.3 rebounds, 1.8 assists and 1.0 steals. He has scored in double-digits three times and secured five boards twice.
Union will begin its conference schedule at home on Thursday night when the Bulldogs host Delta State at 7:30 p.m. Union vs. Mississippi College, also in the Fred DeLay Gymnasium, will tip off at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday.
