MEMPHIS, Tenn. - On Friday night, the No. 16 Union University women's basketball team won 99-52 against Christian Brothers University. The win was head coach
Mark Campbell's 750
th career victory. Union is now 8-2 overall (3-0 GSC), while CBU falls to 0-8 overall (0-3 GSC).
Union had a 25-14 lead at the end of the first quarter. However, the team put up just 11 points to CBU's 12 in the second period to head into halftime with a 10-point advantage. The Lady Bulldogs entered the second half with a fire lit inside them as they scored 40 points in the third quarter, more than doubling their total from the first half and tying the record for total points in a quarter that they set on Wednesday night against Kentucky State University. The quarter was highlighted by five three-pointers from
Bethany Dillard, including back-to-back makes from beyond the arc twice. Union outscored CBU by eight in the fourth to come away with the 47-point victory.
Dillard had another big night to follow up her performance on Wednesday in which she scored 26 points and made eight three-pointers. Against CBU, Dillard put up 24 points and once again shot 8-13 from behind the arc. As a team, Union made 20 threes, which is fifth most all time for a single game in school history.
Olivia Lee and
Shylee Morrison joined Dillard in double-digits, scoring 13 points and 12 points, respectively. Morrison topped the steals category with five, while
Emily Jones grabbed a team-high and personal season-high seven rebounds and shot a perfect 4-4 from the free throw line. Three Lady Bulldogs had four assists, including
Jazalyn Anousinh,
Shylee Morrison, and
Keisharna Lucas, and freshman
Annie Buisson scored the first points of her career, putting up a three-pointer with 1:07 seconds left in the game.
Union shot 41.3 percent (33-80) from the field, 40.8 percent (20-49) from three-point range, and 65 percent (13-20) from the free throw line.
Jada Hood led Christian Brothers with 13 points and three of the team's six three-pointers. CBU shot 33.9 percent (19-56) from the field, 28.6 percent (6-21) from behind the arc, and 66.7 percent (8-12) from the free throw line.
