Tolliver and Whittaker set career highs in Lady Bulldogs' loss to Alabama Huntsville on Friday night

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. - On Nov. 8, the Union University volleyball team lost to the University of Alabama in Huntsville 3-1 (25-16, 25-19, 20-25, 25-23). The Lady Bulldogs currently sit in ninth place in the Gulf South Conference standings with three regular season matches left to play. The top eight teams will move on to the GSC Tournament beginning Nov. 18. With the loss, Union drops to 8-18 overall (6-11 GSC), while UAH improves to 22-5 (13-4 GSC).

The Lady Bulldogs did not go down without a fight as they forced the match to four sets with a 25-20 third set win. Union also had more kills, aces, and digs than the Chargers with 56, seven, and 71, respectively. However, UAH hit 26.3 percent to Union's 17.4 percent.

Dylan Tolliver and Sydney Whittaker set career highs in the match. Tolliver grabbed 30 digs for the most in her almost two seasons of play, and Whittaker had 13 kills for a career best in a single match. Both Tolliver and Whittaker led in those respective categories for Union in the match. Reese Owens topped the leaderboard for the Lady Bulldogs in aces with two and blocks with four. Abby Davis collected 23 assists to lead the team, followed closely by Ashley Pruitt with 22.

Up next, the Lady Bulldogs will travel to Montevallo, Ala., to face the University of Montevallo on Nov. 9 at 1:00 p.m. Montevallo currently sits in seventh place in the GSC standings.
