JACKSON, Tenn. – Union University women's soccer defender
Irene Arias has been named to the D2CCA All-Region Second Team for her efforts, both defensive and offensive, in the 2024 season.
Arias, who logged 1214 minutes on a Union backline that shut out six opponents, also scored three goals–in the same weekend. In an October 25 affair at Valdosta State, Arias scored twice for Union, and just two days later, she notched the game-winner over AUM. Arias was awarded the TSWA Player of the Week honor on October 29.
The sophomore Spaniard, in her second season at Union, was also named Second Team All-GSC. She started 15 games for the Lady Bulldogs, appeared in 16, and took nine shots.
In her collegiate career, Arias has played 34 games (18 starts), scoring three goals, assisting twice, and shooting 18 times with seven on goal.
The Gulf South Conference put 16 players on the two All-Region teams (nine first-team selections), while the Sunshine State Conference had 10 overall (four first-team).
Mya Swinton of West Florida is the South Region Player of the Year.
