ASHLAND, Ohio - On Tuesday night, the No. 10/23 Union University women's basketball team lost to No. 14/9 Ashland University 68-42. This was Union's last game before GSC play starts for the team on Dec. 5. With the loss, Union drops to 4-2 overall, while Ashland improves to 6-2 overall.
The game got off to a slow start with the score being just 9-5 in favor of Ashland at the end of the first quarter. Ashland put up 24 points in the second, doubling Union's 12 to go into halftime with a 33-17 lead. The Lady Bulldogs were unable to make headway in the third and fourth quarters which led to their second loss of the season.
Union's 42 points was the team's fewest so far this season, and only one Lady Bulldog scored double digits,
Alexis Callins with 10.
Shylee Morrison collected eight points, while
Keisharna Lucas,
Emily Jones, and
Aryn Roberts scored six apiece.Â
Jazalyn Anousinh and Morrison each had two assists to lead the team. Roberts grabbed the most rebounds with five, followed by Morrison with four. Union shot 30.9 percent (17-55) from the field, 17.6 percent (3-17) from behind the arc, and 38.5 percent (5-13) from the free throw line.
Ashley Mullet led Ashland with 14 points. Ashland shot 53.1 percent (26-49) from the field, 44 percent (11-25) from three-point range, and 45.5 percent (5-11) from the free throw line.
Up next, the Lady Bulldogs have their first regular season GSC matchup, which will come against Delta State University on Dec. 5 in Fred DeLay Gymnasium at 5:30 p.m.
