JACKSON, Tenn. –
Lucia Revuelto scored a late game-winner for Union on Friday night as the Lady Bulldogs beat Trevecca Nazarene 2-1, clinching a home GSC tournament date for the first time in program history.
Union improves to 8-4-2 (7-2-2 GSC) with the win, third in the conference behind West Florida and Montevallo, which have clinched the top two seeds. With a win or a draw against Lee University on Sunday, Union will finish as the no. 3 seed; the team will finish fourth with a loss.
Union was given a golden opportunity in minute four of the contest when the Trevecca keeper fouled a Union player in the box.
Rebekah Jackson converted the penalty attempt, her fifth goal of the season, and gave Union a 1-0 lead that survived the entirety of the first half.
Kirsten LaVallee, who spent 90 minutes in net, was forced to make three of her four total stops in the first half as Trevecca looked to answer quickly.
The Trojans did level at 50', as Katelyn Keogh found the 19th goal of her career and third of the season.
Union, not wanting to wait to clinch a home postseason game until Sunday, looked for a game-winner, but as the clock wound down, the teams appeared to approach a draw.
In the 85th minute, Revuelo chipped a shot over the head and out of reach of Trevecca's keeper to regain Union's advantage and settle the final score.
The sophomore forward is among conference leaders in points (21), assists (7) and goals (5).
Kickoff vs. Lee is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. on Sunday.
