Union looks to make its first national tournament appearance in the program's NCAA history

JACKSON, Tenn. – Union University is named in the first South Region "ranking" of 2024, an alphabetical list of eight teams from the Gulf South and Sunshine State conferences released Wednesday.

"It's a great testament to what this team has done and accomplished and that the staff that we have is all working hard," said head coach Josh Alford, commenting on the program's first-ever inclusion in the list of teams under consideration for the NCAA national tournament. "Little things like this give us confirmation that we're doing things right, but we're still hungry for more."

Lee, Montevallo and West Florida of the GSC also made the cut, along with the SSC's Embry-Riddle, Florida Tech, Rollins and Tampa.

"You're getting a little bit of publicity here and there or rankings here and there, but now we're all about how we finish," Alford said. "The team can finish really high and strong as long as we execute and don't make mistakes."

Union (7-4-2, 6-2-2) has two final regular-season games and the GSC tournament to solidify a resume worthy of the first NCAA bid in program history.

The Lady Bulldogs will host Trevecca and Lee this weekend as the team jostles one final time for conference tournament seeding. Kickoff times are scheduled for 5:00 p.m. on Friday and 1:00 p.m. on Sunday at Smith Memorial Soccer Complex.

The GSC Championship begins November 10 at the campus sites of the top four seeds. The next regional list – this time a true ranking – will be released on November 6.
