Men's soccer falls to #12 West Florida

JACKSON, Tenn. – Conference-leading West Florida scored three goals in the first 35 minutes of Sunday afternoon's contest at Smith Memorial Soccer Complex and defeated the Bulldogs 3-0.

West Florida (7-1-3, 5-0-3 GSC) scored in the 9th, 28th, and 35th minutes, displaying offensive superiority in a game the Argos led in shots on goal 11-2.

Keegan Ancelin, now a league co-leader in conference play goals (8), opened scoring on a penalty kick awarded when Union keeper Tommy Scahill fouled an Argo in the box.

After Josiah Fontenot added the Argos' second, Ancelin completed his brace and put the Bulldogs out of contention early.

Despite playing shorthanded soccer for much of the second half due to red cards awarded to Daniel Dixon at 58' and Kobi Mosley at 75', the nine-man Bulldogs prevented the Argos, who pace the conference with 21 goals in GSC competition, from expanding the margin.

With the loss, Union falls to 6-6-1 and 1-5-1 against conference opponents. The Bulldogs have struggled to score in GSC action, bringing up the rear at 0.57 goals per conference game.

Union will travel to Alabama next for its final road weekend of the season. The Bulldogs are slated to play Montevallo Friday at 6:30 p.m. and Auburn-Montgomery at 3:30 p.m. Sunday.
