West Alabama blanks Union men's soccer 2-0

LIVINGSTON, Ala. – The offensive skid of the Union men's soccer team continued Friday night, as the Bulldogs fell 2-0 to West Alabama in their third-straight GSC contest without a goal.

Since Union's score late in the first half of a 1-1 draw with Christian Brothers on September 20, the team (5-4-1, 0-3-1 GSC) hasn't found the net in seven halves of conference play.

The Tigers (4-3-3, 2-2-2) found their game-winner at 18:01 with Joe Wright's third goal of the season. With a chance to respond quickly, Kenny Nitzsche's shot hit the post less than a minute later. Nitzsche and Diego Medina each put a shot on target before the break, but Tiger keeper Dressel Timon was prepared to handle both.

At the half, West Alabama led 1-0, having put four shots on goal to Union's two.

Union keeper Tommy Scahill made five saves in 78 minutes before he was involved in a collision and shown a red card. Freshman Jackson Talley entered as Scahill's replacement and made one save but allowed West Alabama's second goal in the 83rd minute.

Union's only second-half shot on goal was a headed attempt by Jamie Chamberlain at 76'. West Alabama led the teams 20-15 in shots and 8-3 in shots on target.

The Bulldogs will look to snap the drought at Alabama-Huntsville (1-5-3, 0-4-1) on Sunday at 3:30 p.m.
