MOBILE, Ala. - The Union University men's golf team posted a sixth place finish at the 2023 Gulf South Conference Championships at the Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail at Magnolia Grove. The 3-round event featured 10 teams with 50 golfers.Â
Union's
JJ Zimmer climbed the leaderboard with a final round 69 to vault him to a tie for fourth place, earning all-tournament honors. The sophomore posted a 212, -4 (72, 71, 69) for the event, just two strokes off the leader. Elias Haavisto of West Florida won the event with a 210, -6.Â
Union shot 293's in the first and third rounds with a 300 in the second round for a total of 886, +22. West Florida won the event with an 851, -13. Shorter finished second, Lee third, Montevallo fourth, Christian Brothers fifth, Mississippi College seventh, West Georgia eighth, Valdosta State ninth, and Delta State tenth.Â
Union was one of four nationally ranked teams in the field at No. 46. Lee (No. 3), West Florida (No. 5), and Shorter (No. 37) were the other three.Â

Gray Campbell finished T25 with a 225, +9 (74, 76, 75),
Trey Tidwell finished T30, 226, +10 (73, 77, 76),
Timothy Pinkston finished T39, 229, +13 (74, 79, 76), and
Jackson Hughey finished T41, 230, +24 (81, 76, 73).Â
Union will await their postseason fate for a team and/or individual at-large bids to the NCAA Region Tournament.Â
