JACKSON, Tenn. – The Union University softball team lost a series at home against the Warhawks of Auburn Montgomery. They lost the first game 6-3 and the second game 11-3. The third game of the series was scored as a no contest because of the weather. Union moves to 13-10 overall on the season, and 6-4 in the Gulf South Conference. AUM improved to 16-10 on this year's campaign and 8-3 in league play.
In the first game on Friday, Union scored first in the second inning as
Mackenzi David hit a two-run homerun which scored
Fallon Groves. Union picked up one more run in the third as
Macey Neal also homered. AUM got their bats going in the back half of the game as they scored four runs in the fourth to take the lead. They scored two more unanswered runs in the sixth and seventh inning resulting in a final score of 6-3.
David led the team with two RBI.
Riley Vaughn started in the circle for Union throwing seven innings giving up six runs on five hits striking out nine.
In Saturday's game, AUM came out swinging and scored five runs on three hits in the first inning. They continued their momentum scoring two in the second and one in the third. Union picked up one run in the bottom of the third as
Idalia Alarcon scored off a single from
Courtney Marler. Both teams would score two a piece in the fourth and fifth innings resulting in a final score of 11-3.
Alarcon led Union going 3-3 with a single, double and a home run. She was a triple shy of the cycle. Marler led the team in RBI with 2.
Kira Finkley stated in the circle for Union throwing two thirds of an innings and giving up five runs.
Emily Claire Felder threw in relief throwing four and a thirds innings giving up six runs on 12 hits striking out three.
Up next for Union is a non-conference doubleheader against Trevecca Nazarene University. The first game of the doubleheader is set to take place Tuesday, March 14 at 2:00 p.m.
