Bulldogs win season opener over Tuskegee in GSC/SIAC crossover event

JACKSON, Tenn. - Union University defeated Tuskegee University in their season opener on Friday evening by a score of 86-65. Union's record moves to 1-0 (0-0 GSC) while Tuskegee's record drops to 0-1 (0-0 SIAC).

Overall, the Bulldogs scored 38 points in the paint and scored 12 points off of offensive rebounds, and 13 points off of Tuskegee turnovers. Points of the bench could prove to be a staple for this Bulldog offense as the Bulldog's bench scored 41 total points. Union shot 55.4% from the field for the game, 42.3% from 3-point range, and 68.4% from the charity stripe.

1st Half: Union shot 53.3% from the field in the first half (16-30) and shot at a 27.3% clip (3-11) from beyond the arc. The Bulldogs were nearly perfect at the free throw line hitting 5 out of 6 attempts. Union ended the first half leading Tuskegee 40-26.

2nd Half: Union maintained their lead in the second half and never looked back. In the second half, the Bulldogs shot 57.7% from the floor (15-26) and caught fire from deep shooting an outrageous 53.3% (8-15). The second half offensive showing allowed Union to finish the game with their largest lead (21 points).

Offensively, Union was paced by Jordan Pyke and Isaiah Victor with 25 points and 20 points. Pyke,  a 6-foot-7 true freshman, led Union in points with 25. Jordan shot 71.4% from the floor tonight (10-14), including 50% from 3-point range. In the second half Pyke did the majority of his damage, scoring 19 points for the Bulldogs. Isaiah Victor had 20 points in the game, 18 points coming off of three-pointers. Victor also had 5 assists to add on to his impressive offensive performance. 

On the defensive side of the ball, Parker Applegate secured 5 defensive rebounds. Dusan Djordjevic tallied the Bulldog's lone block. Multiple players recorded 1 steal.

Up next for Union is another match in the GSC/SIAC crossover event. The Bulldogs will face the Lane College Dragons tomorrow at 11:00 a.m. in Rome, Georgia. The Bulldog's will make their first home appearance on November 21 versus Purdue University Northwest.
