OXFORD, Ala. - The Union University softball team lost 9-1 in six innings to top-seeded and NCAA D2 No. 4 Auburn University Montgomery in the first round of the 2022 Gulf South Conference Tournament. Union dropped to 18-28 overall, while AUM improved to 29-8.
Union dropped to the elimination bracket and will face 6-seed Lee University Thursday at 12:30 p.m. at Oxford's Choccolocco Park.
Union scored first with a solo home run from the catcher,
Fallon Groves in the top of the second. Union held that lead until the bottom of the third with AUM tied the game. The Warhawks scored three runs in the fourth and five runs in the sixth to end the game. The final four runs came on a grand slam from Kat Fallen.
Laken DiSteffano (6-9) tossed 5.1 innings in the start, allowing seven runs, five of them earned on five hits with five strikeouts and six walks.
Kira Finkley pitched to two batters in relief, allowing two runs on one hits with a walk. Union managed four hits, two coming from
Morgan Jennings.
Macey Neal joined Groves as the other two players with one hit each.
