Union baseball defeated by No. 6 Trevecca Nazarene

JACKSON, TENN. – The Union University baseball team fell to No. 6 nationally ranked Trevecca Nazarene Wednesday evening. The final score after nine innings was Trevecca Nazarene 3, Union 2. Union fell to 8-10 overall on the season while Trevecca Nazarene improved to 16-3 on the year.
 
The Trojans of Trevecca Nazarene took an early lead in the top of the second when Henry Mosley homered to left field. The Bulldogs tied the game in the bottom half of the inning when Blake Barrett hit a solo shot to left as well. The Trojans picked up a pair of runs in the middle innings, one in the third and one in the fifth. Barrett hit his second homerun of the game in the eight to bring Union within one run, but the Bulldogs just couldn't get the hit they needed.
 
Trevecca threw seven pitchers in this game, Jonathan Burns earned his first win of the season and Jack Keele picked up his fourth save of the year.
 
Union was led by Barrett with two hits, both of which were homeruns. Sam Pointdexter started on the mound for Union. He threw 6.0 innings earning six strikeouts, he allowed three runs on eight hits and one walk. Ryan Evans threw in relief throwing 3.0 innings earning one strikeout, allowing only one hit and one walk.
 
Up next for Union is a 3 game conference series as they hit the road to face off against the Falcons of Montevallo University. The first game of the series is set to take place Saturday, March 19 at 12:00 p.m.
