VALDOSTA, Ga. – The Union University men's basketball team gained a win on the road Sunday afternoon against Valdosta State University. The final score of the game was Union 81, Valdosta State 78. With this win, Union improved to 6-1 overall and 5-1 in the Gulf South Conference. The Blazers fell to 6-5 overall and 3-3 in the GSC.
With eight different lead changes in the first half, the two teams seemed to be evenly matched. The Blazers finished the first half on top 32-31. Union was outshot in the first half shooting 37 percent from the field and 33 percent from beyond the arc. The blazers posted an impressive 50 percent from the field.
The second half was much like the first, but with only two minutes left in the game Union posted their biggest lead of the game as
Tylandrius Parks sunk both free-throws to put the Bulldogs on top by seven. Union would hold on to that lead posting a final score of 81-78.
Union's shooting improved in the second half shooting 75 percent from the field and 50 percent from beyond the arc. Overall, Union outshot the Blazers 52 percent from the field and 39 percent from the three-point line. The Blazers shot 48 percent from the field and 26 percent from the three-point line.
Parks led the charge for Union scoring 22 points and grabbing eight rebounds. He was 7-11 from the field and a perfect 8-8 from the charity stripe. Valdosta State's Jacolbey Owens led his team with 23 points and six rebounds.
Up next for Union is a conference matchup at home as they take on the Falcons of the University of Montevallo. This game is set to take place Friday, December 16 at 7:30 p.m.
