PENSACOLA, Fla. - The Union University volleyball team is ready for Saturday's semifinal match in the 2022 Gulf South Conference Championships. The tournament is being played on the campus of the University of West Florida.
Union, the 2-seed, will be taking on 7-seeded Auburn University Montgomery at 1:30 p.m. central time, Saturday, November 12. AUM upset 3-seed Mississippi College Friday night in quarterfinal action, 3-2. By finishing as one of the top-2 seeds, Union earned a double-bye in the tournament all the way to the semifinals.
Union knocked off AUM back on October 22 in Jackson 3-0 in the only regular season meeting this year. Since both teams became members of the GSC, Union leads the overall series with AUM 6-0.
This will be Union's second appearance in the GSC semifinal round. Union is 0-1 in semifinal matches, falling to host West Florida in 2019.
Union volleyball is making its fourth trip to the GSC Championships, all consecutive (2019, 2020, 2021, 2022). After moving from NAIA to NCAA in 2012-13, Union became postseason eligible in 2014. Union's No. 2 seed this season is the highest seed for the program in the GSC Tournament. Union has been a No. 3 seed twice and a No. 4 seed once.
This season, Union set program records for most GSC wins in a season (14), most overall wins in a regular season in GSC era (21), best start in GSC play (7-0), most consecutive wins in NCAA D2 era (9), most consecutive GSC wins (7).

Emily Grace Calhoon and
Jordan Vick were named first team All-GSC performers. Senior
Sydney Sample was named second team All-GSC. Vick's career, she has surpasses 3,000 career assists, 100 career aces, and is just nine digs away from 1,000 career and six blocks away from 100 career. She was a second team All-GSC in 2019. She is one of only two players in Union volleyball history to have over 3,000 career assists. The only one from the D2 era. Calhoon was a second team All-GSC performer in 2019 and first team All-GSC is 2021. She holds Union's NCAA D2 era record for blocks in a career and currently sits at 335. She has 939 career kills. Sample was named the GSC Defender of the Week twice this season and passed 1,000 career digs earlier in the year.
