Union men's basketball tops Lane 64-58 in crossover classic

TUSKEGEE, Ala. - The Union University men's basketball team posted a 64-58 win over Lane College Saturday afternoon in the South Region Crossover Classic. Union improved to 1-1 on the season and Lane dropped to 1-1 overall. 
Union jumped out to a 6-0 lead but struggled from the field in the first half. Lane took control and pushed its lead to as many as 13 points in the first half. Union made a late run to clip its deficit to seven points at the break, 32-25. 
Union shot just 27 percent from the field in the first half including just 2-of-15 (13-percent) from three-point range. Lane's Kelvin Allen (14) and Union Tylandrius Parks (11) both scored double figures. 
In the second half, Union started making a few more shots, hitting 41 percent from the field and 27 percent from long range. It was enough to rally and take a lead of as many as eight points late in the game. Union also did a great job defensively, holding Lane's Allen to just three second half points. Union also dominated the boards, outrebounding Lane 53-35 overall, 14-6 offensively, and also winning the blocked shots battle 7-4. 
Union had two players finish with double-doubles including Parks with 20 points and 11 boards and Boe Nguidjol with 16 points and 17 rebounds. Jeremiah Littlepage also added 10 points. Nguidjol completed his full stat sheet with five assists and four blocks. 
Lane was led by Allen with 17 points and Floyd Williams with 16 points. 
Up next for Union will be the Gulf South Conference opener Thursday, November 17 at 7:30 p.m. versus Mississippi College.
