MONTEVALLO, Ala. - The Union University women's soccer team lost 5-0 at the University of Montevallo in the first round of the 2021 Gulf South Conference Spring Championship Series. Group A six-seed Union ended its season with an 0-6 record, while Group B three-seed Montevallo improved to 5-2-1 overall.
The Lady Bulldogs were able to hold off the Falcons until the 35th minute of play when a shot from Romee Contreras snuck under the crossbar to put the Falcons on the board. The 1-0 score held at the half.
The Falcons continued their control of the game in the second half, leading Union 13-4 in shots, and scoring four more goals to set the final score at 5-0.
Rylee Iorio recorded 10 saves for Union during her 90 minutes in goal, including a penalty kick save in the second half.
Montevallo led Union 30-7 in shots overall, including 16-3 in shots on goal.
Union was led by
Victoria Seymour with three shots, along with
Iris Seamster with two shots. Seymour and Seamster recorded the three shots on goal for the Lady Bulldogs.
