MEMPHIS, Tenn. - The Union University women's basketball team lost to Christian Brothers University 84-57 Saturday afternoon. Union dropped to 15-5 on the season and in the Gulf South Conference while Christian Brothers improved to 5-9 overall and in league play.
Christian Brothers came out strong and led 17-12 at the end of the first quarter. The Lady Bulldogs cut the lead to four in the second quarter, but the Lady Bucs 36-29 at the half.Â
Union cut the lead to nine points in the fourth quarter but was unable to overcome Christian Brothers.Â
Union was led by Jaelencia Williams with 23 points, eight rebounds, and two blocks. Shanique Lucas scored 17 points and grabbed six rebounds. The Lady Bulldogs shot 45 percent from the field, 24 percent (4-17) from three, and 50 percent (9-18) from the free throw line. Â
Christian Brothers was led by Brynne Lytle with 33 points and eight rebounds. Emily Jones scored 29 points and Karlee Bates added 11. The Lady Bucs shot 48 percent from the field, 38 percent (13-34) from three, and 90 percent (9-10) from the free throw line. Â
Up next for the Lady Bulldogs is the quarterfinal round of the GSC Women's Basketball Championships. Union is the number one seed in the GSC West and will host the GSC East number four seed, West Florida, Tuesday, March 2 at 5 p.m. in the Fred DeLay Gymnasium.Â
