Union women rally past Alabama Huntsville, 63-59

JACKSON, Tenn. – The Union University women's basketball team posted a 63-59 win over Alabama Huntsville Saturday night. Union improved to 13-4 overall and in Gulf South Conference West play. UAH dropped to 8-6 on the season and in league play. 

The first quarter featured four lead changes with UAH outscoring Union 24-20. UAH remained strong in the second quarter, outscoring Union 13-12. The Lady Bulldogs never led in the second quarter. UAH led 37-32 at the half. 

Union took control in the third quarter with five players scoring. Union outscored UAH 17-10. At the end of three, the Lady Bulldogs led 49-47.

The Lady Bulldogs picked up where they left off in the fourth quarter, stretching their lead to nine points, 57-48, with 6:09 left to play. The Chargers bounced back with an 11-0 run to take the lead, 59-57, with just 1:24 on the clock. A layup and free throw by Jordan Little give the Lady Bulldogs a one-point lead with 59 seconds left. UAH missed a key three pointer, and a foul sent Shanique Lucas to the line with 22 seconds. Lucas made both shots. Little hit a big three-pointer to put the game out of reach with 20 seconds left, sealing the win for Union. 

Union was led by Lucas with 16 points and eight rebounds. Jaelencia Williams logged her 25th career double-double with 15 points and 14 rebounds. Little added 14 points and six rebounds. The Lady Bulldogs shot 39 percent from the field, 32 percent (8-25) from long range, and 53 percent (9-17) from the free throw line.

Union outrebounded UAH 46-34.

UAH was led by Sloan Mann with 17 points. Selena Pruitt added 12 points and 10 rebounds. Alexis Woods scored 11 points. The Chargers shot 35 percent from the field, 34 percent (11-32) from 3-point range, and 67 percent (4-6) from the free throw line.
